Burnley Face Bundesliga Competiton for Championship Striker

Burnley

Premier League new boys Burnley could go head-to-head with Bundesliga side Wolfsburg for the signing of a new striker.

Scott Parker’s side will return to the top tier this upcoming season and are in the market for players to help bolster their squad.

One such player is Norwich City and USA striker, Josh Sargent. However, the Clarets face competition from German side Wolfsburg for Sargent’s signature.

Wolfsburg keen to bring Sargent back to Germany

The Athletic shared that Bundesliga side Wolfsburg are in talks with Sargent. The move would see the USMNT striker return to Germany four years after departing Werder Bremen for Norwich City.

Wolfsburg’s interest comes after Alan Nixon reported that Burnley are interested in Sargent but are put off by Norwich’s £20million asking price.

Sargent’s 15-goal season

It’s no surprise that teams are interested in signing Sargent after his display in the Championship last season. Sargent received an average Sofascore rating of 7.05.

For the Canaries, he played 32 games, scoring 15 times, finishing the season with 0.5 goals per game and a goal every 167 minutes, the highest in the Norwich squad.

Sargent finished second to Borja Sainz in both total shots per match and shots on target per match. The American striker had a respectable two shots and 0.9 shots on target per match.

What’s next for Sargent?

25-year-old Sargent looks likely to have a couple of options this summer if he does want to leave Carrow Road.

A chance to play in the Premier League again will likely be enticing to the American. He played 26 games in the Premier League for Norwich City but only managed to score twice.

Before that, Sargent had scored just 11 goals in 70 Bundesliga games for Werder Bremen.

Despite his struggles in the English and German top leagues, he’s scored double-figure goals in his past three seasons for Norwich.

His recent scoring record suggests he could be ready for a second go at top-level football.
