Burnley have had a busy summer since their relegation from the Premier League, but with all of their incomings, it was almost certain that exits would be on the cards.
Scott Parker’s side have already allowed goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux (Swansea City) and Michael Mellon (Stockport County) to depart the club on loan.
It now appears that another Burnley player is closing in on a loan exit before the end of the summer transfer window.
Costelloe to League Two
According to journalist Alan Nixon, Accrington Stanley are closing in on the signing of Burnley winger Dara Costelloe on a season-long loan deal.
Costelloe featured for Burnley during their previous Championship campaign but has since slipped further down the pecking order at Turf Moor.
How did he fare last season?
The 21-year-old spent the entirety of the 2023/24 campaign out on loan in Scotland as well as a stint at Bradford City during the second half of the 2022/23 season.
Costelloe began the season with SPFL side St. Johnstone, scoring once in 12 appearances before being called by Burnley in January.
Upon his return, the winger returned to the SPFL joining Dundee, where he managed two assists in 17 appearances featuring in a handful of roles.
What would a switch do for Burnley?
Costelloe has had three loan spells in the last one and a half seasons away from Turf Moor – all to mixed effects in terms of goal contributions but each deal would have benefited the winger in the long run.
The Irishman earning regular first-team minutes will allow him to further improve as a player, which is very beneficial for Burnley in the long run.
Meanwhile, Accrington will be adding a player with an eye for goal and an ability to create chances in the final third which would have its own benefits for the League Two side moving into the new season.
