The deadline day chaos is in full flow, with clubs scrambling to sign and sell players before the 7pm cut-off. In recent hours, it has been reported that Burnley are interested in a deal for a League One star.
The Clarets are embarking on their first season back in the Premier League after gaining automatic promotion from the Championship. After a solid start to the campaign, Scott Parker is looking to add to his squad before the deadline.
Burnley Interested In Luton Town Star
According to Mike McGrath, Burnley are in talks with Luton Town regarding a potential deadline day deal for star defender Teden Mengi.
The 23-year-old defender is seen as an option at Turf Moor as the Clarets look to strengthen their backline. If a deal is struck in the coming hours, then Mengi will most likely complete his medical in Luton.
Burnley have started their Premier League campaign off in solid fashion, with one win and two losses. Both losses have come away to big six sides in Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United. Their only win has come at Turf Moor, against fellow newly promoted Sunderland.
After the signings of Kyle Walker, Axel Tuanzebe and Martin Dubravka, Scott Parker is still looking to bolster his defence.
Especially after the sales of James Trafford to Manchester City and CJ Egan-Riley to Marseille. Both players were part of the Burnley side that broke the Championship’s lowest number of goals conceded record last season.
Mengi Looking To Regain 2023/2024 Form
Teden Mengi joined Luton from Manchester United in the summer of 2023. The Hatters were preparing for a season in the top flight after defeating Coventry City in the Championship play-off final.
The 23-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in the Premier League, playing 30 times as Luton were unfortunately relegated. Mengi’s composure and no-nonsense style of play alerted clubs all over Europe.
However, Luton refused to sell the defender last summer. Mengi was a standout for the Hatters in the first half of the Championship season. Unfortunately, the centre back suffered a knee injury in December that sidelined him for four months.
After back-to-back relegations, Luton are embarking on their first season back in League One since 2019.
Burnley hope they can help Mengi regain his pre-injury form. When fit, the former Manchester United man is one of the most promising defenders in England.
