League One strugglers Burton Albion are set to complete the permanent acquisition of Gateshead star Kain Adom after agreeing a fee with the National League side.
The 24-year-old has been a rare spark in what’s been a fairly disappointing campaign for Gateshead so far this season, and now things look set to get even worse for Rob Elliot’s side.
Meanwhile, the Brewers raided the National League last summer with the signing of Eastleigh’s Tyrese Shade and history now appears to be repeating itself once again.
Adom set for Burton switch
Adom was recently highlighted as being a player that National League Lowdown podcast co-host Louis believed could make the jump to the EFL this month, and it would appear that he is indeed correct.
This is according to journalist Alan Nixon, who has reported via his Patreon that Adom is set to join the League One side on a permanent contract, bringing to an end his time in the National League.
His departure would be a major setback for Gateshead, especially with the side sitting bottom of the National League after over half of the campaign has been played. He was a rare positive in what’s been a challenging campaign both on and off the pitch for the club.
According to Nixon, Adom is joining Burton for a ‘bargain deal’ after ‘jumping’ at the opportunity to make his move into the EFL.
One teams setback is another teams gain
Winger Kain Adom can also operate as a striker and has already scored against League One competition earlier this season, when he struck against AFC Wimbledon in their FA Cup clash.
The 24-year-old has already hit double figures for Gateshead this season, which means he’s already performing at the highest level he has during his playing career thus far, from a statistical perspective.
Gateshead themselves have scored just 29 goals in the league this season, meaning Adom alone has contributed to 35% of their goals and without him – they’d be thoroughly behind at the bottom of the division.
Meanwhile, Burton Albion are currently 21st in League One, a point off safety and have scored just 23 goals themselves in the third tier.
Summer addition Tyrese Shade has five of those, having impressed with the Brewers since making his move from Eastleigh.
With Burton also using wingers in their current system, Adom will have the opportunity to push on, get regular minutes and try to pick up where he’s left off – potentially handing a major survival boost to his new side, whilst almost ending Gateshead’s hopes of retaining their place in the National League this season.
