Carlisle United are reportedly keen to tie down one of their out of contract players, before rival teams swoop in to prize him away from the club.
The side have unsurprisingly had a busy start to the January transfer window, following a disappointing start to their 2024/25 campaign and find themselves in an ongoing relegation battle to avoid the drop.
Currently, the Blues find themselves bottom of the Football League, seven points off safety and have won just four matches all season in League Two.
However, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke, things could be about to change as Carlisle United are aiming to tie down winger Kadeem Harris to a long-term contract with the football club.
Harris’ contract is due to expire at the end of January, meaning the club have just a couple of weeks left to try and retain his services.
How has he fared this season?
Since joining the football club in November, Harris has registered eight league appearances with five of those being starts.
He’s scored twice for the club during that time, with strikes against Accrington Stanley and Crewe Alexandra in recent outings – meaning he’s scored two goals in his last three games.
Harris has averaged a match rating of 6.81 during his stint with the club thus far, making him one of Carlisle’s highest ranked players during the first half of the campaign.
How important is it for Carlisle to keep him?
The winger is an experienced EFL player, having featured for clubs as high as the Championship in his career and that background could play a vital role in boosting the players morale heading into a challenging period of the season.
Similarly, Harris is in good form for Carlisle at the moment and losing him could negatively affect both him and the club as a whole.
A new contract also stops rival teams from swooping in and signing Harris themselves, in a move that would make them stronger but Carlisle weaker.
