Celtic in advanced talks to sign international forward

Celtic are reportedly in advanced talks to permanently sign striker Adam Idah after the Republic of Ireland international starred on loan with the Bhoys last season.

The Bhoys have been targeting Idah all summer but until now, had struggled to get near Norwich City’s asking price. It’s believed that the Canaries want around £6 million for their striker, and now Celtic are closing in on one of Brendan Rodgers’ top targets.

Idah managed to score nine times during his second-half of the season loan spell at Celtic Park, including a dramatic late winner in the Scottish FA Cup. It would be seen as a major step forward if the Celtic board could hand Rodgers a striker he rates very highly.

Idah to finally make his move permanent

It’s no surprise that Celtic and Rodgers have been relentlessly pushing to try and get Idah signed permanently after what he managed to do last season. With Rangers clicking into gear under Philippe Clement, Celtic had a task on their hands to retain the SPFL title, and the signing of Idah helped them kick on.

The Republic of Ireland striker registered 11 goal involvements from just 19 appearances across all competitions, so paying just £6 million would appear to be a bargain.

Idah’s future was looking unclear for a lot of this transfer window as he turned out for Norwich in pre-season friendlies, pointing towards the fact he could stay at Carrow Road. However, Anthony Joseph has now reported that the two clubs are in advanced talks to seal a deal.

Celtic looking to retain the SPFL title

Celtic are going into the 2024/25 SPFL season full of confidence having beaten their bitter rivals to top spot last time out. The Bhoys are now going to be gunning for an incredible 55th Scottish top-flight league title.

Idah will be a huge part of Celtic’s squad going forward and if they wish to beat a Rangers side who’ve put a lot of faith in their manager by handing him a new contract.

It looked to be a punt from Celtic when they signed Idah in January as he’d only scored 17 goals in 115 appearances for Norwich, but the striker’s time north of the border couldn’t have been more different.

The 23-year-old managed to score in half of his league games for Celtic before the split, so if he can maintain that form into the new campaign, it could be a very enjoyable time for Celtic fans.
