Celtic, QPR and Unlikely League One Promotion Candidates Eye £2m Premiership Talent

QPR and Celtic are among a growing list of clubs tracking Dundee defender Luke Graham, with the Scotland Under 21 international expected to attract serious summer interest.

The 22-year-old has emerged as one of the standout young centre-backs in the Scottish Premiership this season, making 26 league appearances and becoming a key figure for Dundee. A seven-figure bid from Portsmouth was rejected in January, and fresh reports suggest both QPR and Celtic are now monitoring the situation closely. Rangers have been credited with a strong interest, and League One promotion hopefuls Lincoln City were linked over the weekend.

Graham, who previously gained senior experience on loan at Falkirk, Montrose, Albion Rovers and Lochee United, has taken his opportunity under head coach Steven Pressley. His development curve, combined with his age and homegrown status, makes him an attractive proposition for clubs seeking defensive depth with resale potential.

Speaking this week, the defender made it clear that his focus remains on Dundee’s campaign rather than speculation.

“It’s obviously good to get recognised for good performances but I don’t let it get to my head.” “I’m just focused on finishing the season here and finishing as high in the table as possible.” “I’m loving it. I just want to play games and thankfully the manager has given me the chance to do that.”

That stance is unsurprising. Dundee are braced for interest and are understood to value Graham at around £2 million, a fee that reflects his age profile, contract situation and trajectory rather than purely current output.

For Celtic, the appeal is obvious. Strengthening domestically with emerging Scottish talent fits both their recruitment model and squad registration framework.

QPR interest

For QPR, the situation is slightly different but equally logical. The Championship side have been attentive to value markets north of the border in recent windows and see Graham as a player capable of stepping up physically and tactically. With defensive consistency an issue at times this season, adding a developing centre back with first-team minutes already under his belt would align with a longer-term rebuild.

Other clubs have been linked, including Rangers and Aberdeen, while English interest is not limited to QPR. Lincoln City have also been mentioned in some quarters, though that scenario appears highly unlikely. A £2 million outlay would represent a significant deviation from Lincoln’s established recruitment model, even in the event of promotion, and central defence is not currently viewed as an urgent priority there.

The real story centres on QPR and Celtic. Both have the financial capability and competitive platform to justify Dundee’s valuation, and both can offer clear progression paths. As the summer window approaches, Graham’s performances will continue to be scrutinised, but the direction of travel is clear.

Dundee may hope to retain their academy graduate for another season, yet the combination of Championship and Premiership interest suggests that will be difficult. If bids materialise at the reported level, the focus will shift from speculation to negotiation.

For now, QPR and Celtic appear best placed to test Dundee’s resolve.
