Bolton Wanderers’ pursuit of Celtic striker Johnny Kenny has hit a stumbling block with Celtic demanding a seven-figure fee for the player. 

Steven Schumacher’s side have been keen to add firepower to their squad this summer. They have already added Sam Dalby and have also been linked to Charlton Athletic’s Gassan Ahadme and QPR’s Alfie Lloyd.

These options may be more realistic after a gulf emerged in the valuation between Bolton and Celtic.

Celtic want £1 million for Johnny Kenny from Bolton Wanderers

Bolton Wanderers, according to Alan Nixon, value the player at £500k and are willing to guarantee that fee plus add-ons. However, Celtic will not let him go until their valuation of £1m is met. This huge difference could cause the deal to collapse, with the Trotters already looking at other options.

As previously reported, they could move for Charlton Athletic’s Gassan Ahadme, which has become a more realistic option following the Championship side’s transfer of League One top scorer Charlie Kelman. They have also been offered the chance to sign Alfie Lloyd, an emerging talent at QPR but Leyton Orient’s interest could complicate matters.

Big Season for Bolton Wanderers

Bolton Wanderers have been the bridesmaid but never the bride for a few years now. They are a huge club for League One level and would not look out of place in the Premier League. However, nothing seems to fall quite right for them, whether that be managers, players or just the entire package.

Steven Schumacher is keen to impress and has pedigree for earning promotions. They have spent well on players such as Ethan Erhahon from Lincoln City and Sam Dalby from Wrexham. This is arguably a more competitive league than in previous seasons and could be their best chance of pushing for a spot in the Championship. However, getting their targets in before next week could be the difference between a good start or not.
