Championship Defender Makes Wealdstone Switch

National League side Wealdstone FC have announced the loan signing of Championship defender Deon Woodman from Queens Park Rangers, as confirmed via a statement on the club’s website.

The 6’6 central defender joins the Stones on a loan deal, initially lasting for one month.

Woodman becomes new Wealdstone manager David Noble’s first signing since his arrival, with the former St Albans man deciding to bolster his defence with the QPR loanee.

Woodman began his career in the Crystal Palace academy system, but only made his way up to the u18s before making the move across London to QPR in 2021. Since the move, he has worked his way up into the u21 side but is yet to have made an appearance for the Championship outfit.

the towering centre-back has had a small taste of senior football previously, spending some time on loan at Dulwich Hamlet in the 2022/23 season, where he went on the make eight appearances for the club.

Woodman will be joining up with a Wealdstone side that finds themselves in fine form, despite recently losing former manager Stewart Maynard to Notts County. They currently sit 12th in the league on 37 points, having lost only one of their last seven league games.

Being a part-time side in the National League like Wealdstone is, it can be said that sitting in mid-table is very impressive and with Woodman’s arrival they look to continue their good form, looking to work their way up the table.

Upon confirmation of the transfer, manager David Noble stated via the club website:

“His addition to our squad adds depth and quality to our defensive options. We believe Deon’s experience and attributes will be invaluable to us, and we look forward to integrating him into the team.”

Writer’s View

Woodman is a good signing for Wealdstone and shows a big statement on the side pushing on despite Stuart Maynard’s departure to Notts County.

The defender will further boost the club’s defensive options over the next month or so and if all goes well, he could extend that until the end of the season.
