With transfer rumours starting to heat up again, fans are nervously watching for any links that might impact their clubs in one way or another. The Championship’s top scorer, Norwich City player Borja Sainz, has been linked with a move to Turkey.
Such a move would see Sainz follow in the footsteps of former Norwich man Gabriel Sara, who left for Galatasaray in the summer.
Turkish Delight
According to reports, Galatasaray has swooped in with a move to try and pry the indomitable Borja Sainz from Norwich City. The idea of a move has been very well received by Sainz as talks are all but done.
However, there is just one problem. Norwich City reportedly have no intention to sell Sainz.
The Norfolk club are asking for an offer in the region of £20 million, and it appears Galatasaray are not even close to that sum. There are still eighteen months left on Sainz’s contract, which gives Norwich City some leverage.
When asked about a potential sale of the club talisman, Norwich City’s imminent majority shareholder, Mark Attansio, said there is no need to sell Sainz in the upcoming transfer window.
Despite Attansio and the sporting director’s assurances to shareholders and supporters, the rumour mill hasn’t slowed down when it comes to Norwich City’s best player this season.
There are also reports that Athletic Bilbao are contemplating making a move for Borja Sainz. However, a Bilbao move might be more difficult as their sporting director has said that there might not be room in the Athletic squad for Sainz.
Difficult Dilemma
Seemingly, Sainz and his current club are at an impasse. The player, on the one hand, is keen to make a move to a bigger club and prove himself. However, Norwich City view Sainz as a central figure in their ambitions this season.
After Norwich City bowed out disappointingly in the playoffs to Leeds United last season, the club surely desires to make good that disappointment. Unfortunately, this is often the struggle Championship clubs face when they have an ultra-talented player on their squad.
If Sainz were to leave, he would leave a gaping hole in what has been a fearsome attack. Sainz would not be the only Norwich City player to attract some interest as his teammate Josh Sargent is sure to attract loads of interest. Norwich City truly have a dilemma on their hands.
It is a curious, but familiar situation for a Championship side such as Norwich City. A key player turns heads and wants to leave despite their current club having no desire to sell them yet.
As mentioned above, Norwich City does have a recent history of doing business with Galatasaray, so there might be a good possibility that a deal for Sainz comes to pass. If one does, then it will be a huge window for Norwich City to try and replace the goals Sainz has given the club.
