Championship Target Emerges On Huddersfield Town’s Radar

Huddersfield Town

Huddersfield Town are reportedly plotting a move to sign former Championship target Joe Low from League One rivals Wycombe Wanderers.

The 23-year-old played a crucial role for the Chairboys, guiding them to the League One play-off places last season, but is currently less than four weeks away from officially becoming a free agent as his contract is coming to an end.

Low faces a busy few weeks with several potential destinations on the horizon, and now a new side has been linked with bringing the defender to the club.

Huddersfield eye Low deal

As reported by journalist Pete O’Rourke, Huddersfield Town are plotting a move to sign the 23-year-old on a free transfer this summer.

Technically speaking, Low may be available for free but he has been offered a new contract already by Wycombe Wanderers which means that they will be subject to a compensation fee if he were to move on.

Low was the subject of a January bid from Championship side Swansea City, but those bids were rejected and the defender saw out the rest of the campaign with the Chairboys.

However, he could be set to switch one shade of blue for another if a deal between all parties can be signed off.

How did he fare last season?

The 23-year-old played a key role for Wycombe Wanderers last season, but managed to go one step further this time around.

Following a campaign of 39 appearances, Low made 42 this time around, scoring four goals in the third tier.

However, Low played just two of the clubs final five league games as well as being an unused substitute during both play-off semi-final matches against Charlton Athletic.

What move should Low make?

Low is pushing closer to the Championship with each passing season and that factor could play a key role in his decision this summer.

The defender has already attracted interest from Swansea City and a move into the Championship could put him on the radar of the Welsh national team.

Huddersfield Town have already secured Ryan Ledson and Marcus Harness this summer and are lining up a third ambitious signing as they aim to bounce back and clinch a return to the Championship of their own.

Day-by-day it looks increasingly likely that Low will be leaving Wycombe Wanderers, but as of this summer it’s only Huddersfield that have been credited with fresh interest in the 23-year-old.

He will need to weigh up whether staying in League One will allow him to stand out and reach the Championship would be beneficial for his next move, or whether he should hold off and gamble on a second tier side taking a look.
