With just two matches remaining of the Championship season, teams are beginning to have their fates decided but there is still so much to play for in what is likely to be a typically dramatic climax to the campaign.
The automatic promotion spots have now been filled, while two of the play-off spots are also confirmed. However, the title, other two play-off spots and relegation places are all up for grabs in the next two weeks.
Here we look at the teams that are still in the mix at both ends of the table, what could be decided this weekend and the key matches that will be taking place.
Promotion sealed, title going to the wire
Easter Monday saw Leeds United and Burnley both clinch automatic promotion after Leeds thrashed Stoke City 6-0, with Burnley beating promotion rivals Sheffield United 2-1 later in the day sending both teams up.
However, the title is guaranteed to be decided on the final day of the season with the two sides level on 94 points. Leeds are the side in the driving seat, with their goal difference 14 better than Burnley’s.
Burnley travel to Queens Park Rangers in one of Saturday’s early kick-offs, before Leeds are not in action until Monday night when they host Bristol City. On the final day, Burnley host Millwall and Leeds travel to Plymouth Argyle.
Final day showdown headlines play-off race
Sheffield United’s defeat to Burnley not only assured Scott Parker’s side’s promotion, but also confirmed that the Blades will be competing in the play-offs and will finish third. Sunderland are also assured of a play-off spot and will be finishing fourth.
That leaves two spots up for grabs and five sides realistically in contention. Bristol City and Coventry City currently hold those places, with a three point gap to Middlesbrough and Millwall, with Blackburn Rovers a point further back. However, it would take an unlikely sequence of results for Rovers to force their way in.
One final day match that stands out takes place at the CBS Arena as Coventry City host Middlesbrough. The two sides are currently sixth and seventh, with Middlesbrough having a better goal difference, so that could potentially end up being a straight head-to-head.
That also helps Bristol City, as it means at least one of the sides below them will be dropping points in the final reckoning. After facing Leeds, the Robins end the season at home to Preston needing one win from their last two to ensure their season will be extended.
Relegation battle- seven clubs still in danger
It is a reflection of how tight it is down at the bottom that 18th placed Preston North End are only three points clear of danger with six points left to play for. Cardiff City and Plymouth Argyle are both in real danger, three points adrift of safety.
Derby County and Luton Town are level on 46 points either side of the drop zone, with Derby ahead on goal difference. Hull City are next on 48 points, with Preston and Oxford United on 49. Even Stoke, on 50, are still not entirely safe.
Plymouth and Cardiff could both go down on Saturday. Cardiff host West Brom, with both sides having parted company with their manager this week, with Plymouth travelling to Preston. If Cardiff or Plymouth lose, they will go down if Derby or Luton avoid defeat.
Even a draw would not be enough to save either side if Derby or Luton win. Luton take on play-off chasing Coventry, while Derby face a Hull side also looking to secure their own survival. Whatever happens over the weekend, at least one relegation place will still be decided on the final day of the season.
