Championship Trio Target Oxford United Midfielder

Oxford United midfielder Tyler Goodrham has emerged as a transfer target for three Championship clubs this summer. As revealed by Football League World, Southampton, Middlesbrough, and Coventry City are monitoring the 21-year-old following his strong season for the U’s.

Goodrham was the subject of major interest in January, but remained at the Kassam Stadium, helping Oxford to preserve it’s second-tier status. Now, a host of clubs are prepared to reignite their pursuit of the Republic of Ireland youth international.

Strong Debut Season in the Championship

The consistency of Goodrham’s performances throughout his first season in the second tier has undoubtedly caught the eye of Oxford’s rivals. He managed nine goal involvements in his 41 league appearances, a joint high for the Yellows this campaign.

Despite finishing the league season just four points above the drop zone, Oxford impressed for the most part, despite turbulence prior to the new year. A strong start and finish to the season cancelled out a sticky middle to result in an impressive first season survival.

But amongst the chaos of Des Buckingham’s sacking and the appointment of Gary Rowett, Goodrham showcased his unquestionable talent.

During his stint in Oxfordshire, he was used in various positions across the midfield and attacking areas. He applied his trade on opposite wings, in the centre, and even in the number 10 position at points throughout the season.

His remarkable versatility has proven a vital tool for Oxford, and alerted the attention of many competitors in the process.

High Praise for Talented Youngster

Goodrham’s current boss Gary Rowett has waxed lyrical about the endless positives to his game. Speaking shortly after arriving at the Kassam Stadium, Rowett detailed his surprise at just how battle-hardened the 21-year-old is.

“He’s got areas of his game that I’m surprised how good he is. Sometime’s you watch him from afar and you think he’s a technical player who plays in pockets, but he’s a tough so and so. He plays with a real responsibility that kind of belies his age.” said Rowett to the Oxford Mail.

Championship Rivals to Battle for Goodrham

It was announced last summer that Tyler Goodrham had signed a new long-term contract with Oxford. This will ensure that a weighty transfer fee will be demanded to acquire his services this summer.

Having been at the club since the age of 14, the U’s are sure to negotiate a fee befitting of their Academy success story. Having made over 140 senior appearances for his beloved Oxford, any move Goodrham makes is likely to be done so with much thought and consideration.

One club eyeing him up is Southampton, who will be looking for a quick rebuild after a disastrous Premier League campaign. The Saints are also on the hunt for a new manager, meaning their chances of landing Goodrham could hinge on the identity of their next boss.

After narrowly missing out on this season’s play-off places, Middlesbrough will on the look-out for signings to bridge the gap next term. Inconsistency ultimately proved costly for the Teesiders, so it’s little wonder they are on a mission to bolster their squad with Championship talent.

Having ended the season by securing a play-off birth, Coventry are likely to target quality signings over quantity after a successful campaign under Frank Lampard. The Sky Blue’s pursuit of the youngster could depend on the outcome of their play-off campaign.

While the 2024/25 EFL season is nearing its conclusion, the duels are set to continue off the field in the transfer market.
