Charlton Athletic boss Nathan Jones has provided an update on the fitness of one of his key attackers.
The Addicks face up against Stockport County this weekend, a game that sees fifth in League One travel to fourth with just two points separating them.
With the trip up to Stockport being so important as we approach the business end of the season, Charlton fans will be pleased with the latest injury update on Tyreece Campbell.
What did the Charlton boss say?
Speaking to London News Online ahead of his side’s trip up North, Jones confirmed that Campbell will be available for this weekend’s game.
The winger came off in the 86th minute in their 1-0 win against Barnsley, but Jones cleared up that it wasn’t an injury issue:
“Tyreece, it is stuff we monitor, but he is fine. It wasn’t an injury as such, it was more fatigue and cramping – that can lead to injury if you’re not careful.”
With the trip to Stockport County being key to Charlton’s play-off dreams, the news Campbell will be available will be great news for Addicks fans.
How has Campbell played this season?
21-year-old Campbell has enjoyed a steady rise into the first team for Charlton. Still, at his young age, he’s played over 100 times for the club he’s been at since 2012.
His breakthrough season came in the 2022/23 season, where he played 22 League One games. Last season, he continued his development and featured in 33 league games.
This season, Campbell’s already matched his game tally from last season – playing 33 times in the league for Charlton.
In those 33 games, he’s scored three, his best goal scoring season to date, and picked up one assist. His performances have earned him a Sofascore average rating of 6.87 – the 11th highest in the Charlton squad.
How important is this news for Charlton?
The news Campbell is fit for this weekend is great news for Charlton ahead of what will be a tough clash against Stockport.
Creatively, the left-winger has been one of the standout players for the team – this is despite only registering one assist.
Campbell has created more big chances than any other player in the team, with 11. Conor Coventry and Luke Berry are tied for second with four big chances created.
The Charlton academy graduate also has the second-highest key passes per game, with one. He’s just behind Josh Edwards, who has 1.2 key passes per game.
News their young winger is fit and ready for the game against Stockport will likely only add confidence to both the Charlton squad and fans.
