Charlton Athletic Braced for League One Rivals Transfer Activity

Charlton Athletic midfielder Terry Taylor is the subject of transfer interest from the Addicks’ League One rivals, Rotherham United and Barnsley.

Taylor has struggled for form since he arrived at the Valley, only featuring in five games in the third tier for the club, and an exit could soon be on the cards for the former Burton Albion man, whose previous campaign was stricken by injury, leading to difficulties in building any kind of consistency in South London.

Promotion hopefuls Barnsley and Rotherham United are preparing for a transfer battle as they both set their sights on the 23-year-old this transfer window.

As mentioned above, both clubs are preparing a move for Taylor (according to Football Insider), who, despite struggling for form last campaign, has shown he can perform in the third tier. Barnsley and Rotherham are prepared to fight for the midfielder, who could be another face on the way out of the Valley, with the Addicks having already lost star striker Alfie May this summer, with last season’s top scorer joining Birmingham City.

The club will have been looking to rebuild before any outgoings this summer, with May’s goals not having been enough to propel the side up the table. With many expecting a promotion campaign from Nathan Jones’ side, that looks to be one that could be well off the table after the loss of May.

Charlton Athletic man key to promotion hopes?

While Taylor may not be key to the hopes of a push up the table at the Valley, Barnsley and Rotherham would appear to be holding that hope in their sights as they turn their attention to the midfield man. Having only managed five appearances due to an injury-stricken campaign last year, Taylor would be looking for minutes to continue his development in football, and both Barnsley and Rotherham will be looking at a promotion push once again.

A promotion campaign would be more likely with Rotherham or Barnsley than with a Charlton Athletic side that appears to have been raided this summer in the transfer market. Steve Evans’ return to Rotherham United will have sparked hopes of an immediate return to the Championship after a woeful season, while Barnsley will be targeting a third attempt at promotion, having been unsuccessful in the previous two.

It is worth noting that both clubs are weighing up a loan move for Taylor, which could be beneficial to all parties. Charlton are surely hopeful they can get the best out of the midfielder. The 23-year-old showed he can perform at this level, while with Burton Albion, a promotion season with a team like Barnsley or Rotherham could be the next step in the 23-year-old regaining his confidence.
