Charlton Athletic are among six clubs keen on Southall United midfielder Jaden Thompson-Brissett, as revealed by TEAMtalk.
Millwall, Stoke, Reading, Notts County and Stevenage join the Addicks in the hunt for the non-league talent, who has scored an impressive 20 goals from midfield for his current club. The 22-year-old is flying high, kickstarting his career in the Isthmian South-Central League with the side. His most impressive display being scoring all five of the team’s goals in a 5-2 victory against Corinthians Casuals.
Thompson-Brissett is a product of Championship Norwich City’s academy. However, he left the Canaries academy setup to join up with Thomas Frank’s Brentford side, where he was ultimately released. He made just two appearances in the National League with Dagenham & Redbridge. Southall marks the third club the attacking midfielder has featured for since leaving Brentford.
The Addicks faced a tough start to the season but have picked things up since they parted company with Dean Holden. They currently sit 10th in League One, led by Alfie May’s return of 15 goals in 18 games in all competitions, marking a smart move in the transfer market from the side.
However, they face competition from five other clubs in the EFL, with one being Notts County, who lost a key midfielder in the summer in the form of Ruben Rodrigues. Stevenage also join the chase, who are surprising everyone with their performances this campaign, sitting in the playoff places, making back-to-back promotions a strong possibility. Interest from Norwich’s Championship rivals also comes with Stoke City and Millwall adding the midfield prospect to their radars.
Writer’s View
The midfielder has been notching up goals this season, and his impressive return makes it no surprise that interest is coming from all across the EFL. Non-league talents have made the step up in the past, but not many have performed to a high level other than Jamie Vardy. If anyone could come close to replicating his displays, it would be Thompson-Brissett. While Charlton does not need goals, they could do with some creativity and flair in their squad, and he could add just that for them.
