Charlton Athletic Manager Makes Trialist Admission

Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones has named trialist Danny Hylton as the best player he has ever signed, with the forward featuring for the League One side during a recent friendly against Dartford.

The 35-year-old is currently training under his former manager in an attempt to keep fit and find himself a new side ahead of the 2024/25 season, with Jones already suggesting that Hylton isn’t a player he is currently looking at signing.

Hylton scored Charlton‘s final goal during their 6-1 victory against Dartford over the weekend, in a game in which new signings Matt Godden and Gassan Ahadme also made their unofficial debuts.

Speaking to London News Online, manager Nathan Jones stated…

“I’m having a look at Teddy Bishop. I know everything about Danny Hylton. I know what Danny Hylton can do. I don’t need to look at Danny Hylton. Danny Hylton is possibly my best ever signing in terms of everything.

“So, I’m not having a look at Danny Hylton. We’ve got a lot of young strikers at the football club and if they can have the application and certain things that Danny Hylton has then they’re going to have fantastic careers.

How did Hylton fare last season?

The forward has spent the last two seasons with League One rivals Northampton Town but has become a free agent following the expiry of his contract at Sixfields.

During his time at the club, Hylton made 32 appearances across all competitions, providing two assists and helping the club to seal their promotion to the third tier during his debut campaign.

What’s next for Hylton following Charlton feature?

With a suggestion from Nathan Jones that Hylton isn’t a player the club are currently looking to sign this summer, the forward remains on the lookout for a new permanent club.

At the age of 35, location is potentially likely to play a role in Hylton’s club decision and with the forward playing almost his entire career within the same rough area, his options could be limited.

With Hylton having League Two promotion experience, a drop to the fourth tier is potentially his best option, with options including Bromley or his former side AFC Wimbledon.

However, an ambitious Non-League side could also make a move for the experienced forward as they target a move into the EFL this season.
