Charlton Athletic Set To Sign Premier League Forward

Charlton Athletic are reportedly set to sign Ipswich Town Striker Gassan Ahadme on a permanent deal.

The 23-year-old striker was on loan with Cambridge United last season but looks set to return to League One this window according to Richard Cawley.

Who Is Gassan Ahadme?

The striker came through the ranks at Club Gimnàstic Manresa before joining Norwich City U21 in 2019. The striker returned on loan to Spain for the 20/21 season joining Real Oviedo.

Upon returning to The Canaries, he joined then League One Side Portsmouth on a six-month loan deal, where he played ten times scoring once.

Upon returning, he was signed permanently by Burton Albion where he would stay for six months before getting another permanent move to Ipswich Town.

He returned to The Brewers on loan in January 2023 on a loan deal until the end of the season, in total he played 29 games scoring nine goals.

For the 23/24 season, the striker again headed out on loan this time to Cambridge United where he scored 13 goals in 33 games.

What Is The Current Striker Situation At Charlton?

After the departure of Alife May to Birmingham City, there are currently four contracted strikers at The Addicks.

Miles Leaburn is a 20-year-old striker who scored three goals last season in 13 League One appearances is an academy prospect of Charlton but hasn’t played since November due to a Hamstring injury.

Matty Godden signed for the club this Summer Window from Coventry City and is an experienced option at the top end of the pitch. Godden has also won promotion from League One level before, having appeared over 100 times at the Championship level as well as over 75 times at League One level he could prove to be a valuable asset. He is also a striker who likes to press the backline which with the way Nathan Jones likes to play will be important.

Chuks Aneke signed for Charlton in January 2022 but has struggled for consistent game time over the past two seasons with Charlton. The 31-year-old has over 200 appearances at League One level, so they could still play a role over the course of a season by mentoring the younger attackers that Charlton has.

Daniel Kanu the 19-year old had a breakthrough season with Charlton last season making 42 appearances in League One last season scoring eight goals. The striker is a different type to the current contracted offering pace in behind as well as dribbling ability.

Would This Be A Good Signing?

Gassan would offer a physical threat to the Charlton frontline winning on average 6.58 aerial duels per 90 ranking him in the 87% percentile, which could prove beneficial for Godden and Kanu who both like to play on the shoulder of the last defender.

In a Cambridge United side that only scored 38 goals last season with just 24 from open play, he still managed to score 11 goals in the league averaging a goal every 180 minutes. T

He also over-achieved his xG of 8.6 with all of his 11 goals coming inside the box last season providing a clinical edge which outgoing striker Alfie May offered.
