Newly promoted Championship side Charlton Athletic have moved ahead in the race to sign Reading’s Harvey Knibbs. Portsmouth and Oxford United were also interested.
Nathan Jones’ side have a monumental task on their hands to stabilise and equip their side for their return to the Championship.
They have already added firepower in the form of League One top goal scorer Charlie Kelman. The striker moved to The Valley in a deal which could total £5m if performance based add-ons are met.
They have not been afraid to utilise their knowledge of the third tier, by adding Rob Apter (Blackpool) and Tanto Olaofe (Stockport County) to the squad. Alongside Thomas Kaminski (Luton) and Joe Rankin-Costello (Blackburn).
However, it would appear as though their spending is not done just yet.
Charlton Athletic Agree Transfer Fee With Reading For Harvey Knibbs
Charlton Athletic have been able to fight off competition from Oxford United and Portsmouth for the signing of Harvey Knibbs. This is according to transfer expert Pete O’Rourke who has stated.
“Charlton have agreed a fee with Reading for Harvey Knibbs and the move is set to be finalised later this week.”
Whilst a deal is not yet complete it is clear that it is moving into its final stages.
The League One and League Two season kicks off this weekend, with the Championship waiting until the following week. Meaning sides in the lower two tiers will be keen to accelerate their transfer business before the start of their new campaign.

Nathan Jones Ready for Charlton Athletic Championship Fixtures?
Charlton only managed to gain promotion through the play-offs by beating Leyton Orient. Whilst for many sides it might indicate they would not be ready for the step up the following season.
However, last summer Nathan Jones was clear in his recruitment that he wanted players who could help them in League One and be good enough to take the step up to the Championship.,
It seemed like a bold and confident strategy at the time but it has paid off. The squad is looking in a much better shape than many who gain promotion and with high quality additions such as Charlie Kelman they should be well prepared. Their first game against Watford cannot come soon enough.
