Charlton Athletic To Sign Ex-Premier League Goalkeeper

CHARLTON ATHLETIC

Charlton Athletic have agreed a deal to sign Luton Town goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski as the newly promoted Addicks begin preparations for their return to the Championship.

There have also been links from overseas with Belgian side Standard Liege hoping to bring him in, as well as Kaminski’s former side, RSC Anderlecht, also hoping to lure him back to Brussels.

The 32-year-old has a host of experience in the English second tier, having joined Blackburn Rovers in 2020 and making 115 appearances and keeping 33 clean sheets.

The Belgian then joined Luton Town for their first season in the Premier League and played every game, but was unable to keep the Hatters in the top flight. Last season was more of the same for Luton as they were relegated to League One on goal difference, with Kaminski conceding 68 goals in 45 games.

A summer of signings for Charlton Athletic?

Nathan Jones’ League One play-off winners will need a strong summer of transfers in order to stake their position as a Championship club in the upcoming season.

The Addicks were promoted alongside Hollywood-owned Wrexham and Birmingham City, who both have a large chequebook to wield this summer.

Charlton Athletic have already been linked with 25-year-old Stockport County forward Tanto Olaofe, with a fee of £1.5 million rumoured to have been agreed. However, question marks will remain about whether the 12-goal forward can handle the step up to the second tier.

Charlton have continued their swoop for League One stars by chasing Leyton Orient’s Ethan Galbraith. The Northern Irishman made 39 appearances and helped the O’s reach the play-off final before they ultimately lost to Charlton. The play-off winners have already had one bid of £1.3 million rejected for Galbraith, so they may have to turn their attention elsewhere if they want to properly prepare for next season.

The Addicks will be reassured that they will be keeping hold of their manager too before their challenging season back in the Championship after five seasons out. Nathan Jones had been linked with the vacant Cardiff City job after Aaron Ramsey’s interim term came to an end.

With Brian BarryMurphy now filling the role in Wales, Charlton fans will be relieved that their club have Jones in charge to prepare for their opening matchday at home to Watford.
