Premier League side Chelsea have seen a bid for talented Borussia Dortmund youngster Jamie Bynoe-Gittens rejected by the Bundesliga club.
Fresh from victory in the Europa Conference League, Enzo Maresca has begun work on building his squad for the upcoming season, in which they will compete in next season’s Champions League.
However, with silverware already delivered in his first season at Stamford Bridge, the Italian will set his sights on further success, with the new format of the Club World Cup set to launch this weekend. The Blues could very well find themselves matching up against Bynoe-Gittens’ Dortmund side, who have already agreed a move for Sunderland star Jobe Bellingham in this transfer window.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano revealed that the German club had rejected the bid, but also stated that it was not the end of this transfer saga, with Chelsea keen on the English starlet. Today marked the closing of the first transfer window this summer, a new format alongside the Club World Cup’s new system, but there is still plenty more of the market to go this summer.
Chelsea Set Sights on Further Success this Season
Despite securing Champions League football this campaign and bringing European silverware to Stamford Bridge, making them the first side to win all three of these continental trophies, Maresca does not see the 2024/25 campaign as finished.
The Conference League winners find themselves in a group many would expect them to win with ease, and will meet a familiar face in Jorginho, who has agreed to leave Arsenal for Brazilian club Flamengo.
With the tournament fast approaching and squads being announced, the Chelsea manager has opted to leave players who have been out on loan this past season out of his team, except for Andrey Santos. A conclusion like this would appear rational, considering success would not come through an unsettled squad, and many players may not have a future in West London past this season.
The Blues have already set to work in this transfer window, having already signed Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap for a £20 million fee. Despite having a high number of goalkeepers, they have also been looking at bringing in AC Milan shot-stopper Mike Maignan, but failed to agree to a deal with the Italian club.
Chelsea Still Seeking Deal for Dortmund Starlet.
The first transfer window has now closed, with this summer seeing two windows open to allow clubs competing in the Club World Cup to do business to improve their squads for the upcoming tournament. However, with the Premier League side missing the first deadline to bring in Gittens, their pursuit of the winger is far from over.
When reporting the rejected bid, Romano revealed that the side is set to return with another bid for the winger, who is keen on the move himself, having agreed to terms until 2032 with the Premier League giants already.
Having lost players such as Erling Haaland to the English top flight in recent years, this Dortmund side is much depleted and does not show much sign of rising to the top once more. This season saw them narrowly secure Champions League football by two points, but they still finished 25 points behind league leaders Bayern Munich. Once a side that boasted names such as Robert Lewandowski, Mario Gotze and Marco Reus, BVB has become a club that many have used as a stepping stone to greater things; Jude Bellingham and Erling Haaland are prime examples of this. It would seem that Jamie Bynoe-Gittens just might become the next player to do this.
