Chelsea Hijack Leeds United Transfer

It’s been another busy summer for Chelsea. After the Club World Cup win in July, the Blues have been busy off the pitch as well. Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, Estevao and Jamie Gittens have all arrived at Stamford Bridge for sizeable fees.

There have been multiple outgoings as well, with Noni Madueke, Joao Felix and Carney Chukwumeuka to name a few who have all departed Enzo Maresca’s side. Chelsea are set to sign another player, as Monday’s deadline fast approaches.

Chelsea Seal Deal For Brighton and Hove Albion Man From Under Leeds United’s Nose

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are set to sign Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder, Facundo Buonanotte on loan.

The deal includes no buy option and is just a straight loan.

Chelsea seem to have snatched the Argentinian from underneath Leeds United’s nose. Buonanotte was set for a medical at Leeds on Thursday. However, the midfielder never boarded the flight in the hope of a move to Chelsea materialising.

The Blues are currently preparing for a West London derby on Saturday, as they entertain Fulham at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea currently sit fourth in the Premier League, after one win and one draw. An opening day goalless draw against Crystal Palace was followed by a five-one thrashing of West Ham United.

How Did Buonanotte Fare Last Season?

Buonanotte spent last season on loan at relegated Leicester City. The Argentinian scored five goals and assisted a further two in 31 Premier League appearances.

Buonanotte’s last goal for the Foxes came in the two-all draw against rivals, Nottingham Forest, in May. Leicester were already relegated by then, but it didn’t stop them putting a dent in Forest’s Champions League hopes.

It was the FA Cup where the midfielder produced his best performance. Buonanotte bagged a goal and an assist as the Foxes demolished Championship QPR 6-2.

Is This A Good Signing For Chelsea?

For Chelsea, this is a poor signing and it’s hard to understand why they’ve done it. The Argentinian is gonna find games and minutes hard to come by, as he competes with Cole Palmer, Joao Pedro, Estevao and Jamie Gittens for a spot in the side.

Even in the cup competitions, Maresca will still opt for the names mentioned above, as all four rarely start together. Chelsea would have been better off waiting until January to sign another midfielder if injuries had occurred. Instead, they’ve signed someone who wasn’t even starting for a relegated Leicester side in the second half of last season.

This seems like a ‘I forgot he played for them’ signing in years to come.
