Cheltenham Town Set To Land Former Premier League Man

Cheltenham Town are closing in on a deal to sign former Premier League forward Terry Ablade on a free transfer before Monday’s deadline.

The Robins are currently bottom of League Two after a disappointing start to the 2025/26 season and have already saw an issue in terms of putting the ball in the back of their opponents’ net.

Across their opening six league games, Cheltenham have only registered two goals and that needs to change if they are to avoid relegation this season.

However, it appears that one player could be set to try and help that department before Monday’s deadline.

Ablade set for Cheltenham move

As reported by Gloucestershire Live journalist Jon Palmer, Cheltenham Town have agreed a deal to sign former Premier League striker Terry Ablade on a free transfer.

The 23-year-old is formerly of Premier League side Fulham but was released during the summer after his contract came to an end.

With League Two experience already under his wing, Ablade is likely to be hoping to make an immediate impression with the Robins moving forward.

How did he fare last season?

Ablade spent the 2024/25 season on loan with Scottish Championship side Partick Thistle after a prior stint with Carlisle United.

He scored on his debut for the SPFL Championship side, netting a late second-half goal during a 2-1 loss against Falkirk.

In total, he made 25 appearances across all competitions in Scotland and registered four goal contributions, with his side finishing fourth in the division.

Is this a good move?

Unlike usual free agents, Ablade did feature a lot last season and could make an immediate impression at Cheltenham, which is something their supporters will likely be craving.

Cheltenham are lacking goals across the forward line and need creativity to try and resurrect their poor start – to further ensure that they avoid a repeat of their 2023/24 start that saw them eventually relegated.

Whether Ablade can be the missing piece of the puzzle remains to be seen, but it is a low-risk signing with the potential for high rewards if he can start well.
