Chesterfield have made some promising signings up to now, such as Striker Paddy Madden and Defender Chey Dunkley. Now, according to the club’s official website, they have secured the signing of Premier League defender Harvey Araujo on a season-long loan deal. 

“We’re delighted to announce the signing of Harvey Araujo on a season-long loan from Fulham!”

The left-footed centre-back links up with Fulham teammate Devan Tanton, who arrived at Chesterfield on loan last week from the Premier League club.

Having been in the Fulham academy since the age of 12, Araujo is looking forward to the prospect of playing senior football.

The 19-year-old played 44 games for Fulham’s U18’s last season, he contributed with three goals and two assists.

Araujo is a left-sided centre-back and is also left-footed so he could bring some competition for Chey Dunkley.

A Big Season for the Spireites as Injuries Pile Up

Chesterfield have started their season off pretty well with a 1-1 draw against Swindon Town with Armando Dobra scoring their first EFL goal since their relegation to the National League back in 2018. Dobra’s goal was soon to be cancelled out as Will Wright’s wonder strike found the back of Ryan Boot’s net.

As Paul Cook revealed after a tight 2-1 loss to Derby County in the Carabao Cup, “Mandeville is going to be out for some period of time, he has done his ankle. Ryan Colclough has done his calf, Devan (Tanton) came off at halftime with a tight quad.”

With so many injuries, a change of formation could be an option for Paul Cook but most importantly for Harvey Araujo to try to get himself a place in a very strong Chesterfield side.

Even though he hasn’t played at a senior level before, the number of games he played last season at youth level might have given him lots of experience and fitness along the way as Chesterfield can not afford any more injuries after the recent news in the injury department so this could give a chance for Harvey Araujo to find himself a spot in the starting line-up.
