Contender Speaks Out In Tottenham Hotspur Managerial Search

Harry Redknapp has said he would love to lead Tottenham Hotspur once more following the sacking of Thomas Frank.

The Dane was given his marching orders earlier in the day in the wake of Spurs’ loss against Newcastle United, bringing an end to his tenure in North London after just eight months.

Redknapp Throws Hat In Ring

Numerous names have been floated as to who will take over at the Lilywhites following Frank’s sacking, with free agent managers such as Enzo Maresca and Roberto De Zerbi both touted with a permanent switch.

However, former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has stated his interest as an outside contender in returning to White Hart Lane as they look to stave off an unexpected relegation into the Championship. He said to Sky Sports News:

“Of course I would do it, without any shadow of a doubt. But listen, I’m a realist, I don’t live in cuckoo land, you know?

“It’s very doubtful if I would get the job but could I do the job? Yeah, of course I could do the job.

“What they need now is someone to go in, get back, get down to basics, hard work, when you lose the ball, don’t be embarrassed to run and try and get it back.

“They’ve got my number. If anyone wants to ring me, they know where I am.”

Redknapp led Spurs between 2008 and 2012, helping the club progress and reach the Champions League for the first time and establishing them as regulars within European competition.

Is Redknapp An Actual Contender?

While it may be a Tottenham Hotspur fan’s dream to see Harry Redknapp return to the club in their hour of need, it is unlikely that the veteran manager will be in the running to replace Thomas Frank.

However, he would be a great interim manager to help right the ship, especially if Spurs plan to poach Thomas Tuchel from the England job following the World Cup.

In that case, he could be a brilliant choice to make, and will certainly be able to handle the squad by getting back to basics with a squad really stretched by injury.

The quality of players is available within the squad right now to easily stay up, but there needs to be more cohesiveness over the next few matches, otherwise face a serious risk of being overtaken by both Nottingham Forest and West Ham United.

The North London Derby is followed up by some key fixtures, most notably against Forest, and if Spurs’ new manager can claim some crucial wins in those fixtures, they should be more than safe from relegation.
