Contract Offer Withdrawn: Could Bayern Munich Star Be on His Way Out?

Bayern Munich

European football is experiencing a unique trend lately with numerous high-class footballers becoming free agents in the summer and the latest is now German midfielder Joshua Kimmich.

From Kevin De Bruyne to the futures of Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk and Trent Alexander Arnold still not being resolved, this is becoming a widespread issues for top clubs in Europe.

Kimmich arrived in Munich in the summer of 2015, departing from Stuttgart after an eight-year spell with the club.

Since he arrived at Bayern Munich, he has made over 400 appearances for the club. He is nearing a decade with the German giants, while contributing to 157 goals in the process.

Kimmich has won a whole host of silverware in both domestic and European competitions. His haul includes a Champions League title, eight league titles, three German cups, one club world cup and a UEFA Super Cup.

However, his contract is due to expire in three months as he is yet to extend with the Bavarian club. There are now reports of his contract being withdrawn from the club side.

As Christian Falk reported, “FC Bayern has withdrawn its offer for a new contract for Joshua Kimmich

Will Joshua Kimmich Sign a New Contract?

It does seem a particularly bizarre situation that has been unfolding between both parties. As one of the captains of the club, and one of the most crucial pieces of the Bayern side that dominated the league it is a surprise that a new deal has not been agreed.

What has led us to this moment though?

Well, as reported by Christian Falk, “The midfield star was reportedly informed at the start of the week that the offer he had received was no longer valid.”

As he continues by saying “The reason: Bayern officials cannot understand why he is still hesitating. They want a fundamental decision, not to talk to him about the contents of his contract”

Therefore a deal was on the table for the German international, however, his hesitance on the contract is what led to the withdrawal of the extension.

This leads to an interpretation that the midfielder was not too happy of the details of the extension.

This situation means two things. For one, Kimmich will be a free agent in three months. Secondly, the German can talk with any European club regarding a pre-contract as he’s in the last year of his contract.

However, could a 10-year relationship between Bayern and a club legend end like this? Well, although we have seen more tragic stories in the world of football, it may not be out of the realm of possibility that a positive conclusion can occur.

This will likely mean that one of the two sides in the situation will accept terms that do not satisfy their needs.

Potential Destinations

Joshua Kimmich has been one of the elite players in world football in recent seasons. He is excellent in and out of possession.

He posseses a rare trait in modern football that sees him as a major asset in both defensive and attacking phases of play.

In addition to his outstanding leadership skills he has become known as a player that remains resilient under pressure.

Therefore, although he has crossed the 30-year-old mark, there is no doubt that he can bring a sense of class to most clubs around Europe.

It has been reported that Liverpool, Inter Milan and Paris St. Germain are interested in signing the player, although a move to Anfield would appear unlikely.

Liverpool have a tendency to be picky on contracts for players above 30 years old as evidenced by the ongoing standout off with star players.

It may be unlikely they sign a player on high wages that is already above that age mark.

This leaves the likes of PSG and Inter Milan a clear run at negotiating terms with one of the best midfielders of this generation.

A new contract at Bayern cannot be ruled out completely.

However, this is an interesting development and all of Europe’s top clubs should be on high-alert if Kimmich becomes available this summer.
