Coventry City have entered the race to sign Dutch U21s international Tyrese Asante from Israeli side Maccabi Tel-Aviv, ahead of the summer transfer window.
The 22-year-old was the subject of interest from several Championship sides during the January transfer window but no deal came to the table and he remained with his side.
According to Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph, Coventry City are currently in the process of exploring the conditions surrounding them making a move for him in the summer.
Asante to the Sky Blues
Coventry have developed a recent habit of purchasing either Dutch players or players from the Dutch league and Asante could be the latest player to add to that tally.
Despite a mixed start with winger Gervane Kasanteer, the success of both Gustavo Hamer and Milan Van Ewijk have brought positive to the Sky Blues recruitment team – with both players also representing strong value for money.
Asante signed for the Israeli side during the summer, signing a contract until June 2027 with the option of a further year in their favour.
Therefore, the Sky Blues would need to make a persuasive cash offer in order to sign him this summer.
How has he fared this season?
The defender has made 31 appearances across all competitions for Maccabi Tel-Aviv this season, including five in the UEFA Europa League.
His only goal came against FK TSC in the UEFA Europa League qualifier back in August and has helped to keep nine clean sheets this season.
Similarly, he’s also featured twice for Holland’s U21s this season, including an outing against England’s U21s and can play as either a centre-back or right-back.
Coventry face Championship competition
Championship duo Cardiff City and Hull City were also linked with a move for the 22-year-old during the previous transfer window but nothing came from the interest.
Elsewhere, Coventry City’s lack of right-back cover saw them recall Jack Burroughs from his loan spell at SPFL side Kilmarnock.
Similarly, the defensive errors in Coventry’s most recent matches open the door already for potential new recruits to join the Championship side this summer and Asante could be apart of that.
