Coventry City Lead Battle To Land International Defender

Coventry City currently lead the chase to sign Hammarby defender Nathaniel Adjei heading into the January transfer window, according to journalist Alan Nixon via his Patreon page.

The 21-year-old is currently playing in the Swedish league and is the subject of interest of several other Championship sides, but it seems as though Mark Robins’ men lead the race for his signature.

Adjei made 21 appearances in the Swedish top flight last season, scoring once during a 4-3 victory against Djurgarden and has also made two additional appearances in the UEFA Conference League qualifying stages earlier this year.

The centre-back has also attracted fierce interest from Preston North End amongst several other sides but Mark Robins has been granted additional funding ahead of the upcoming window as he aims to steer the Sky Blues back towards the play-off places.

Adjei is currently valued at £3 million and would be the latest in a long list of Sky Blues defensive signings this season, following the additions of Liam Kitching (Barnsley), Joel Latibeaudiere (Swansea), Bobby Thomas (Burnley) and Luis Binks (Bologna).

The Ghanaian centre-back has also broken into his country’s U23s side and made his debut as recently as June 2023 as well as making an additional appearance shortly after and is tipped by many to be ‘one for the future’.

Coventry City returned to winning ways on Saturday with a thumping 3-0 victory away to Millwall, a result that has seen them end a disappointing run of form.

Writer’s View

Coventry City already have five centre-backs at their disposal, which could suggest that loanee Luis Binks may have his loan deal cut short or that Joel Latibeaudiere could be pushed into defensive midfield.

Either way, Adjei has been linked to several sides recently including Sunderland and Preston meaning it would be a terrific addition to Mark Robins’ side.
