Coventry City manager Mark Robins has appeared to confirm the future of midfielder Jamie Allen amongst speculation from some Sky Blues supporters, as confirmed in an interview via Coventry Live.

The 29-year-old has had a stop-start campaign with Mark Robins’ side following a series of health issues/injuries, which led to some Coventry fans using social media to suggest the midfielder could be set to leave the football club in the summer transfer window.

Speaking via Coventry Live, manager Mark Robins stated…

“Jamie has had a stop-start season, really a stop, stop, stop-start season,

“Hopefully he will have a clear run through pre-season and get through that and be available for the majority of next season.

“And hopefully we can keep the majority of the squad together, the players that we want to stay, the players who are in contract.

“And we’ll certainly be strong on that and will try to add to the team where we can to give us a better chance of getting results next season because we want to be in that top six next season.”

How has he faired this season?

Allen has made 25 appearances in all competitions for Coventry City during the 2023/24 season, contributing to four goals including netting his only goal during the club’s final-day defeat against Queen’s Park Rangers.

During that time, he’s started 14 of those matches and captained the side during a 2-1 defeat against Norwich City in February, which was his final league appearance until April following an injury he sustained against Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup.

What setbacks has Allen had this season?

Allen suffered a health scare in June 2023, leading to him being hospitalised following a heart issue. He missed all of pre-season as well as the club’s first five matches of the 2023/24 season.

He continued to have a run in the side until October when he sustained a calf injury which saw him miss several matches.

In February, Allen suffered a fractured cheekbone after being elbowed by Sheffield Wednesday’s Di’Shon Bernard which saw him miss an additional 12 matches.

Is this good news for Coventry?

Jamie Allen still has one year remaining on his Sky Blues contract and Mark Robins has equally been very vocal about his need to have a bigger squad next season, after a string of injuries led to Coventry having to utilise some of their U21s for the final few matches of the season.

Allen has been with Coventry since his summer 2019 move from League One side Burton Albion and helped the club to win the third tier title in his debut season as well as featuring heavily in the Championship.

Having an additional midfield option gives Mark Robins both versatility and options which are both factors he has admitted he needs for the Sky Blues next season.
