Coventry City Plot Move For 20-Year-Old Australian Attacker

Coventry City are reportedly readying a bid to sign Australian attacker Raphael Borges Rodrigues this summer but face strong competition, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke via Football Insider.

The 20-year-old has enjoyed an excellent start to his A-League campaign with MacArthur FC and has caught the eyes of a number of top European clubs, but it’s the Sky Blues that are most likely to submit an offer.

How has he faired this season?

The winger has enjoyed an excellent season so far in his native Australia, featuring 32 times for the football club in all competitions this season.

During that time, Rodrigues has contributed to eight goals including six strikes of his own, averaging a goal contribution every four matches for the football club.

Rodrigues has played anywhere across the front three for MacArthur FC so far this season and has also piqued the interest of the Australian National team, having been capped at U20 and U23 levels in his short career.

Who else is interested?

According to Pete O’Rourke, Coventry City have had a firm eye on the player for ‘some time’ and are readying a bid to land the 20-year-old before he is snapped up by a rival club.

However, they are also joined by SPFL giants Rangers who have also been alerted to Rodrigues’ progress and are potentially in line to submit a bid themselves.

League Two side Swindon Town are currently owned by Australian Clem Morfuni who was also hoping to use his native contacts to try and persuade Rodrigues to join them instead.

Competition in attack

Following the impress debut seasons for Ellis Simms and Haii Wright this season, Mark Robins’ side are likely to continue to focus on improving their quality/options within the final third of next season.

Tatsuhiro Sakamoto will be returning from a back injury whilst January signing Ephron Mason-Clark will be available once his loan spell with Peterborough United comes to an end.
