Coventry City have joined the race to sign Crystal Palace winger Malcolm Ebiowei on loan until the end of the season, as confirmed by Sky Sports.
The talented winger has been linked with a switch to Mark Robins’ side in a bid to help the Sky Blues secure a playoff place for the second consecutive season in the Championship.
Who is Malcolm Ebiowei?
The 20-year-old played youth football for Arsenal, Chelsea and Rangers before making the switch to Derby County in September 2021, during a difficult period for the then-Championship side.
During his breakout season, Ebiowei contributed to three goals in 16 appearances before being snapped up by Premier League side Crystal Palace. He also spent the second half of last season with fellow Championship side Hull City.
So far this season, the winger has featured three times in the EFL Trophy (scoring once) and has made four appearances for Crystal Palace’s U21s as well as being named in their Premier League matchday squad on ten separate occasions.
A bid to reach the top six
Currently, Coventry City occupy the final playoff place in the Championship, one point above Sunderland but one below West Bromwich Albion as the battle for the top six continues to intensify.
After a frustrating start, Mark Robins’ side changed systems and saw a major upturn in fortune as they climbed from the bottom half into the top six. They travel to Norwich City this weekend off the back of two draws against Sheffield Wednesday and Bristol City in recent matches.
Writer’s View
As a Sky Blues fan, I know Cocrntry need another attacking option to support the likes of Haji Wright and Tatsuhiro Sakamoto and a player like Ebiowei would certainly strengthen that particular area.
However, with Queen’s Park Rangers and Belgium side RWD Molenbeek also in the mix, it’s going to be a tough battle for the Sky Blues to land him.
