Crawley Town are set to win the race to sign Southend United target Danny Cashman, following his departure from National League South side Worthing earlier this summer.
The 24-year-old had a second successive standout season for Worthing during the previous campaign, taking the reigns after Ollie Pearce moved on to York City but wasn’t able to get the club over the line in the play-offs.
However, he recently confirmed that he would be leaving Worthing after his contract came to an end, in order to peruse a move higher in the footballing pyramid amd now it appears as though this is set to be confirmed.
Crawley set to land Cashman
As confirmed via a report from the Echo News, Crawley Town are set to win the race to sign forward Danny Cashman on a free transfer after he became a free agent.
Cashman was the subject of heavy interest from National League play-off finalists Southend United, but it appears as though the forward has his heart set on returning to the EFL for the first time in three years.
The forward was previously in the EFL with Championship side Coventry City and had loan stints with both Rochdale and Walsall, before moving to Worthing upon his release by the Sky Blues.
How did he fare last season?
Despite a second successive play-off disappointment for Worthing, Cashman continued to shine for the club, even more so after Pearce left the club last summer.
In the league alone, Cashman featured 44 times for the club, scoring 15 goals and providing seven additional assists for the club as they finished fourth in the National League South.
However, they lost 2-0 against Maidstone United in the play-off quarter-finals which saw their campaign end in disappointing fashion.
Is he ready for an EFL return?
Over the last two seasons as a Non-League footballer, Cashman has allowed himself to settle down and enjoy his football again and it’s shown through his attacking output on the pitch.
He opted to stay at Worthing last summer whilst the likes of Ollie Pearce, Joe Felix and Ricky Aguiar all moved on.
His main position is operating off the left-hand side, though he has the ability to play on the right or through the middle, adding versatility into the Crawley Town attack next season.
Crawley love signing Non-League footballers in recent seasons, suggesting they are likely to already have a big plan for Cashman.
