League Two strugglers Crawley Town have announced the signing of an old favourite as they try and keep the relegation trap door at arms length. The Sussex outfit have welcomed back Danilo Orsi, who was instrumental in the clubs promotion to League One in 2023/24.
Orsi, who had his best season statistically in that season with 19 goals in 45 appearances, signed a two and a half year deal, from AFC Wimbledon. He had signed for the Dons after their League Two playoff success on a two year deal, but never really hit it off with just three goals from 18 games. This despite getting decent game time recently with the injury to main striker Matty Stevens.
Return Home
It is hope that the London born forward will regain the form that made him a cult hero with the Reds at Broadfield Stadium. He really stole the headlines with a hat-trick in the playoff semi-final against MK Dons that year, on way to the clubs 8-1 aggregate win. Then opened the scoring in the final at Wembley, a 2-0 win against Crewe Alexandra.
After this he signed a contract extension, but then Burton Albion snapped up the hitman for an undisclosed fee, then went out on loan to the team he defeated in the playoffs, Milton Keynes in the February 2025. In his time with both Burton and MK he scored nine goals.
Going into this Saturday’s game against Notts County, Crawley are sitting in 21st place, just one point off the drop zone. They have scored 28 goals in their 25 games, but it is in defence that they have been found out, conceding 45 times, pushing them down the table. They have not won a game since November 8.
The return of Orsi is hoped to ignite both his own personal scoring drought, and propel Crawley up the League Two table to safety. This follows the loan signing of another Wembley hero, as Klaidi Lolos has returned from Peterborough United.
