Crystal Palace are weighing up whether to recall young starlet Jesurun Rak-Sakyi from his loan spell at Sheffield United according to a report from Callum O’Connell at Football Insider.

He goes on to say that well respected scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that he is most likely to stay on loan for now, but there is a recall option which could be exercised in January.

Impact at Sheffield United

Rak-Sakyi, 22, joined the Blades on loan during the summer transfer window for a loan fee which reportedly could rise as high as £4million. Since joining Sheffield United, he has been a key part of their squad making made 12 appearances for Chris Wilder’s side, with eight of those coming from the start. In that time, he has scored two goals while getting one assist.

Initial promise stunted by injury

Having signed from Chelsea’s academy in 2019, Palace had high hopes for the tricky and pacy right winger. He made his debut on the final day of the 2021-22 season against Manchester United, leading to lots of excitement amongst the Palace faithful. The following season, he went on loan to Charlton Athletic where he had a superb impact. In his 43 games, he scored 15 goals and provided eight assists, leading him to be the Supporter’s Player of the Year, with almost half of the vote going to the young winger.

However, upon his return to Palace, Rak-Sakyi suffered a number of injuries, limiting his first team opportunities in the 2023-24 season. After only eight appearance last season, it was decided he would be best off building experience in the Championship with Sheffield United.

Palace’s decision

Palace retain high hopes for the winger’s development and view him as a future first-team regular, with his displays in the Championship catching the eye. Mick Brown goes on to say he expect Rak-Sakyi to stay at Sheffield United for the duration of the season.

However, given Palace’s poor start to the season, and the lack of width on the right-hand side following the sale of Michael Olise, Ray-Sakyi could provide a realistic option for Oliver Glasner, as he fights to save his job and Palace’s topflight status.
