Derby County have had a bid accepted by Charlton Athletic for playmaker Corey Blackett-Taylor, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke from Football Insider.
The 26-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to the Rams throughout the January transfer window and is finally set to wrap up a six-figure switch to Pride Park.
Who is Corey Blackett-Taylor?
Blackett-Taylor is a product of Aston Villa’s Academy and was a part of their youth setup as well as experiencing a loan stint with League Two side Walsall before his release in June 2019.
Upon his release, the winger joined Tranmere Rovers on a free transfer and contributed to 16 goals in 62 appearances before moving on to Charlton Athletic in 2021.
However, since his move to the football club, Blackett-Taylor has contributed to 34 goals in 97 appearances but with just six months left on his deal, he looks destined to move onto a new chapter.
The deal
Earlier this week, Football Insider reported that Derby County had a £250,000 bid rejected for the 26-year-old but it now appears as though their latest bid has been accepted by Charlton Athletic.
There has been no mention of the amount that Derby County had bid to land the playmaker but it’s enough to have persuaded their League One rival who have already been busy throughout the January transfer window.
Pushing for promotion
Paul Warne’s side are currently third in League One and sits outside of the automatic promotion places on goal difference behind Peterborough United.
The club are also six points clear of seventh place and faces a battle to reach the playoff places after narrowly missing out on the top six last season on the final day of the season.
Writer’s View
Blackett-Taylor is a talented playmaker and he will be a big loss for Charlton Athletic, especially as it directly strengthens a potential promotion rival.
However, their loss is certainly Derby’s gain and they will be getting a talented player to boost their top-six aspirations.
