Derby County Forward Completes National League Switch

Derby County striker Dajaune Brown has signed for National League side Gateshead on loan, as confirmed via a statement on the club’s website.

The 18-year-old has arrived at the Gateshead International Stadium on a loan deal until the end of the 2023/24 campaign, hoping to bolster their options in the final third as they go in search of a playoff place.

Who is Dajaune Brown?

The striker is a product of the Derby County academy and has risen through the ranks from a young child to the U21s and has featured in a large variety of competitions for the Rams so far this season.

In total, Brown has made 17 appearances in all competitions so far this season, scoring nine goals and assisting an additional three. However, only five of those appearances have arrived for the Rams’ first team and is yet to grab his first professional goal or assist.

Operation playoffs

Brown is joining a Gateshead side that are desperately in need of securing a top-seven finish after a tricky few months following the departure of manager Mike Williamson.

The club have also lost key players such as Kyron Lofthouse, Archie Mair and Stephen Wearne within January so far and are also without a manager despite having Rob Elliott in caretaker charge who has helped to maintain their top seven push.

What’s been said?

Upon signing for the National League side until the end of the season, Brown spoke to the club’s media team about his excitement for the spell ahead. He stated…

“The coaching staff want me to come in and really try to bring my strengths to the team,

“Hopefully I can settle in quickly, bring my game and get a few goals as well. I’ve been scoring so far this season, and that’s obviously what I want to be doing,

“It’s men’s football now, and I want to try and challenge myself and push myself forward from this loan.”

Writer’s View

With Gateshead losing several key players during January so far, the addition of Brown should provide a major boost to Rob Elliott’s side heading into the remainder of the campaign.

He’s had an excellent start to the 2023/24 season with Derby County as well as breaking through and into their first team and I am personally excited to see how well he gets on.
