Derby County had experienced a positive start to life back in the Championship up until recently when their league form has slowly began to take a hit.
The Rams have won just one of their last ten matches in the Championship, though five of those games have ended in a 1-1 draw, leaving the club 16th in the table and just three points above the relegation zone.
Aside from a brief run of form by Swansea City loanee Jerry Yates, Derby County’s attackers have struggled to score goals in recent weeks, which is likely to be a concern for Paul Warne’s side heading into the January transfer window.
With that said, the Rams have been linked with one exciting January addition but face serious competition.
Derby join hunt for Barry
As reported by journalist Alan Nixon, Derby County are the latest side to join the race to sign Aston Villa playmaker Louie Barry who is currently excelling on loan with Stockport County.
The exciting forward has taken League One by storm this season after returning to the club in the summer. During his 19 league outings, Barry has scored 14 goals and provided an additional assist.
Aston Villa are reportedly set to recall the 21-year-old in January in order to send him to a Championship side on loan for the second half of the 2024/25 campaign.
Who else has been linked?
Upon the news breaking about Barry being recalled, Michael Carrick’s Middlesbrough became the first team to be linked with the 21-year-old.
Sheffield Wednesday have also been linked with Barry and now Derby County have become the third official side to be named as a potential destination for Barry in the coming weeks.
The left-winger currently averages a goal every 105 minutes in League One this season and would provide fierce competition for the likes of Marcus Harness and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing as Paul Warne’s side continue to push towards safety this season.
