Derby County Lead Race for League One Star

DERBY COUNTY

Derby County are leading the race to sign Bristol Rovers’ Kamil Conteh this summer, with the midfielder reported to have a ‘significant release clause’ in his contract following the Gas’ relegation to League Two.

The midfielder’s upward career trajectory is expected to continue this summer, with reports from The Mirror stating that Derby County, Wycombe Wanderers, and Cardiff City are amongst those interested in the midfielder.

Any move for the Sierra Leone international would be beneficial for Grimsby Town, who have a release clause following the midfielder’s move to Bristol Rovers in January 2024.

Kamil Conteh’s career trajectory has been particularly impressive over the years.

Catching the eye on loan at Gateshead, he departed Middlesbrough to join Grimsby Town in League Two during the summer of 2023.

Following impressive performances at League Two level, he was quickly snapped up by Bristol Rovers, where he has yet again impressed, despite an injury in December ending his 2024-25 season prematurely.

With the Gas now relegated, it is no surprise to see a number of suitors lining up for Conteh’s signature.

While the midfielder’s departure is likely damaging for his current club, Bristol Rovers will make a huge profit from the midfielder, who reportedly has a significant release clause in his contract.

Any club that acquires Conteh in the summer will be signing both a talented player and a saleable asset, with the 22-year-old climbing through the English divisions at a rapid pace.

Championship and League One clubs in the race for Kamil Conteh

Conteh’s future has been a heavily discussed topic following the Gas’ relegation.

Reports from EFL Analysis have claimed that Derby County are ahead in the race for the Sierra Leone international’s signature, facing competition from Peterborough United, Oxford United, Plymouth Argyle, and Millwall.

The previously mentioned reports from The Mirror have stated that Cardiff City and Wycombe Wanderers have also shown an interest; however, Derby are appearing to be the most likely destination for the young midfielder.

This would be a first summer signing for John Eustace, who will look to build a side in his image after securing the club’s Championship status last season.

An incoming Kamil Conteh would fill the void left by Harrison Armstrong, whose loan spell at Pride Park was fundamental in keeping the club above the relegation zone.

The midfielder is dynamic, strong in tackles and an excellent dribbler, with excellent sell-on value for potential suitors.
