Derby County Miss Out on League One Star

Derby County

Hull City have been languishing at the bottom of the Championship table all season, and they are looking for reinforcements to help bolster their chances to stay in the league. With their attack being somewhat weak, they are looking to improve that in the transfer window.

Louie Barry, former West Bromwich Albion academy product and current Aston Villa player, has been coveted by many EFL clubs after his impressive performance for Stockport County this season scoring fifteen goals and assisting twice.

According to James Hoggarth, Hull City has pulled off a shocking loan move for the talented winger. He is currently on Humberside to have a medical to complete the move. However, Pete O’Rourke is also reporting that Aston Villa wants to have a new deal done with Barry before letting him complete the move. There are no further details as of yet, but the completion seems imminent.

Barry to Improve Hull City Attack?

Hull City are nineteenth in the Championship currently and have the third fewest goals scored in the league. The arrival of Louie Barry could be exactly what the Tigers need. With Hull City’s leading scorer being Joao Pedro with five goals, the 21-year-old’s fifteen goals will be very welcome on Humberside.

Barry is hoping to gain a ton of experience with this move, and he could be the talisman that saves the Tigers from disaster. With Barry hoping to maybe break into the Aston Villa squad, the youngster is hoping to prove that he is worthy of that opportunity. The question will be if he can make the step up from League One to the Championship. Fifteen goals is truly impressive, but the Championship is a truly different beast. Barry definitely has the talent. He is skillful on the ball, has an electric touch, and can score from anywhere on the pitch. This addition to the Hull City attack could totally change the ambitions Hull City have going forward this season.

Derby County Miss Out

Championship side Derby County have been heavily linked to the League One top scorer with manager Paul Warne even going so far as to comment on the speculation:
“My honest answer is that I never speak about players at other clubs.

“I saw a manager talk about a player he put an offer in for the other day and it was so open. I will never do that, but as everyone knows I am looking for players across the top line.

“Any winger or any attacking player or number 10, I would be linked to – that is fact. I reckon if I typed in Louie Barry’s name, I reckon there are more than Derby County being linked to him.”

Aston Villa Might Have Another One

Aston Villa have recently been incredibly good at identifying talent and developing them right. One has to look no further than them identifying Morgan Rogers and seeing his potential. Louie Barry appears to be another one. Having come from the West Bromwich Albion academy, Barry was almost an unknown when he joined Barcelona in 2019. Aston Villa saw his potential while he was sitting at Barcelona and acquired his signature

However, the English and Irish international really took off after a series of loan moves that culminated in this season’s stint with Stockport County. He scored nine goals last season with Stockport County and six with Swindon Town a couple seasons ago. The progression seems to be there, and if Barry can make a seamless transition to the Championship, then there might be a case to be made for Barry to have a shot at a spot in next year’s Aston Villa squad.

Hull City beating out a lot of other clubs for Louie Barry’s signature is quite impressive, and it shows the willingness of the Hull City board to get talent to dig themselves out of the hole dug for themselves earlier this season. How well Barry will do remains to be seen, but there a asppears to be a lot of upside.
