Derby County Reach Agreement For Championship Midfielder

Derby County have reached an agreement to sign Cardiff City midfielder Ebou Adams, as reported by Football Insider.

Paul Warne’s Rams beat League One rivals to capture the Gambian international for the remainder of the season. It has not been noted who the clubs interested in the midfielder’s signature alongside Derby County are, but he could make his debut against Charlton Athletic this weekend. The 28-year-old completes a loan move for the remainder of the season ahead of his contract expiring in June 2025.

28-year-old Adams has only made 13 appearances for the Bluebirds in all competitions this season, totalling under 500 minutes of football. The midfielder has struggled to find regular first-team football with Cardiff City after a pectoral muscle tear meant he did not manage a game in the 2022/23 campaign.

His last time featuring regularly in first-team football came with Forest Green Rovers. Making over 40 appearances for the League Two club, scoring three goals and providing one assist, Adams helped the Gloucestershire-based side earn promotion to League One in the 2021/22 campaign.

Adams has been away on international duty this month, competing in his second African Cup of Nations. The side reached the quarter-finals of the 2022 tournament before being eliminated by Cameroon. This time, they did not make it out of the group stage, losing all three games, with Adams only playing 45 minutes in the side’s opening game.

Paul Warne’s Derby County side are currently sitting fourth in League One but hold a game in hand over leaders Portsmouth, which could see them move within one point of the top team. Their next fixture is against managerless Charlton Athletic this weekend, and Adams could go straight into the team for that clash.

Writer’s View

Adams is not going to be a signing that can replace the calibre of a player Derby County lost in the summer like Jason Knight. However, he can still contribute to their squad depth and chip in with some good moments utilising his international experience, which would be valued highly in the third tier.
