Wigan Athletic‘s Ronan Darcy is set to join Crawley Town after being recalled from his loan at Chesterfield.
A regular in Paul Cook’s side this season, the 25-year-old played 31 times for the Spireites this season across all competitions as they mount a push for promotion from League Two.
However, he was prematurely hooked from his spell in Derbyshire at the weekend amid concerns for his game-time following the returns of Armando Dobra and Dilan Markanday from lengthy injury layoffs.
Lindsey Reunions Continue
According to Pete O’Rourke, Crawley Town are set to secure Darcy on loan for the remainder of the season, making him yet another of the Red Devils’ promotion-winning squad to return to Broadfield this month.
Danilo Orsi and Klaidi Lolos both returned last week and immediately found themselves in the starting lineup for Town’s match against Notts County, which they lost 2-1.

Darcy, who played 35 minutes of Crawley’s League Two playoff final triumph over Crewe Alexandra, was sold to Wigan Athletic in January of last year for an undisclosed fee, but struggled to make an impact in Lancashire.
He played 14 times for the Latics between his signing and the end of the season, but found himself out of Ryan Lowe’s plans over the summer, which led to his loan move back down to League Two.
Sticking To Familiarity
The signing of Ronan Darcy continues Scott Lindsey’s plans to bring back tried and tested players to help Crawley Town get back to their feet.
With so few of the promotion-winning team still at the club and with their position in the EFL under serious threat, the former MK Dons boss has begun signing his former squad to try and rescue a season which could end in disaster.
While it was not an ideal start to those plans with Klaidi Lolos being sent off in his second Town debut, Lindsey’s idea to get the band back together is likely the best chance they have to beat the drop.
Now partnered with the promising Louie Copley, who arrived on loan from Arsenal, Darcy should be able to easily reconnect with Orsi up front and find the goals Crawley desperately need.
As a side that was written off before going on and winning promotion, it is hard to do the same this time around and Scott Lindsey may be able to mastermind another shock.
