League One Huddersfield Town have been slammed as being “devoid of ideas” after their thrashing at the hands of Burton Albion this weekend.
The Terriers have struggled through a difficult campaign since their relegation from the Championship last season. Manager Michael Duff was appointed in the summer but was sacked on the 9th March after four defeats in five games saw them drop out of the relegation zone.
Then, rather than attempting to take advantage of a new manager bounce, Huddersfield opted to stick with interim Jon Worthington. A decision they are reportedly regretting.
Their frailty was on full show this weekend as they came up against Gary Bowyer‘s rejuvenated Burton Albion side, who to their credit were superb in every position. But as good as the Brewers were, the Terriers were equally as bad. Despite mustering 66% possession they were unable to muster a single shot on target and allowed their relegation threatened opposition to fire 16 shots.
They now sit in ninth, with four defeats from the last five games and their hopes of a spot in the play-offs slipping away.
Huddersfield Town were “devoid of ideas” – EFL Expert
EFL and League One experts Jamie Johnson and Seb Jones speaking exclusively to THE DECK in the recent League One Lowdown podcast claimed that Huddersfield Town were “abysmal”.
“Devoid of ideas is what I used earlier”
“I watched them at Lincoln earlier in the season and they were abysmal, really drab football” states Jamie
“It really confuses me. They got rid of Michael Duff”
“I think that has come back to bite them to be honest”
“As much as I understand there were frustrations with Michael Duff, they weren’t as good as they should have been… they are much worse now.”
“Jon Worthington just doesn’t seem to be able to get them ticking.”
“The thing that stands out for me the most, I saw Joe Taylor a lot at Lincoln last season, he got hooked off at half time in this game.”
“They bought a Ferrari and have asked him to off road”

“You don’t buy a player that fits one mould then ask him to do something else”.
“If you spend £2-3 million on a footballer you build it around him, you don’t buy a striker that plays by running in behind in the channels then lump the ball up to him”
Another Season in League One
Huddersfield Town now look destined for another season in League One, which means that the managerial appointment is of vital importance. The fans and the club will expect a title challenge or at the very minimum a push for the automatics with the money spent on players like Joe Taylor.
There are very few managers on the market with that level of experience and pedigree. The Jon Worthington stop-gap has been a failed experiment and ultimately looks to have cost them any chance of promotion this year, the board will be conscious not to make a similar mistake.
