Eastleigh star Paul McCallum has won the National League Player of the Month award for December, as confirmed via a statement on the club’s website.
The 30-year-old is currently running away with the Golden Boot award in the fifth tier so far this season and has now secured the Player of the Month award for the Spitfires with his impressive performances.
Who is Paul McCallum?
McCallum has spent almost his entire career in Non-League and has got back to his best since making the switch to Eastleigh during the summer transfer window.
In recent seasons, McCallum has featured for the likes of Chesterfield, Solihull Moors, Barnet and Dagenham & Redbridge but has recaptured his form with the Spitfires.
The forward has netted 22 goals in 22 league games so far this season, whilst also netting three goals in Eastleigh’s three FA Cup matches so far.
His December performances
McCallum began December with a brace during an FA Cup victory against League One strugglers Reading, before netting twice against Aldershot Town and once against Dorking Wanderers.
He also found the back of the net during Eastleigh’s penalty shootout exit against Aldershot Town in early December.
Competing for the playoffs
Eastleigh invested heavily in the summer transfer window and their efforts are currently paying off as the side are competing for the playoff places in the National League.
The club are currently 11th in the table but sits just four points outside of the playoff places after just 27 league matches.
Writer’s View
McCallum has been nothing short of outstanding so far this season and has firmly put himself on the transfer shortlist of many sides with his impressive performances throughout the campaign.
He’s averaging a goal every game so far this season and is currently on course to beat Notts County’s Macaulay Langstaff’s total last season and is subsequently a deserving winner of the Player of the Month award.
