Former Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Kevin Pressman has landed a new job, coaching in non-league.
Lincolnshire-based Northern Premier League side Gainsborough Trinity announced on their club website that the former Owls’ shot-stopper had become part of their backroom staff, as first team and goalkeeping coach.
Former Sheffield Wednesday Stalwart:
Pressman has a 17 year association with Wednesday, where he made close to 500 appearances between 1987 and 2004, mainly in the top flight. The Englishman is fourth on the club’s all-timer record appearance maker list, only behind winger Alan Finney, and fellow goalkeepers Jack Brown and Andrew Wilson.
The 56-year-old made a smattering appearances elsewhere after leaving Hillsborough, before collecting a UEFA A Coaching License in 2007.
Gainsborough manager Russ Wilcox described the appointment of Pressman as a “massive coup” for the ‘Holy Blues’ in the announcement.
The ex-Owls number one has amassed coaching experience at Millwall and Scunthorpe United, before a more recent spell at Grantham Town. In his most recent job he worked alongside another former Sheffield Wednesday player, in Carlton Palmer.
Pressman left his role as Grantham’s goalkeeper coach in the summer of 2023.
Russ Wilcox’s Gainsborough Trinity:
Gainsborough went close to a late dash into the play-off last season, embarking on a rich vein of form after the turn of the year. Wilcox, who is a former assistant manager at Hillsborough, took charge of the North Lincolnshire outfit in September of last year.
After an inconsistent start, the 60-year-old led the Holy Blues to an eventual eighth-place finish.
He has linked up with Trinity’s new first team and goalkeeping coach at both Scunthorpe, where Wilcox was a player, assistant manager and manager over various spells, and the youth setup of Northern Ireland’s national team.
Pressman will be given the chance to work with another former Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper at Gainsborough, in the form of Josh Render. The ex-Owls youngster joined Trinity towards the business end of last season and impressed enough to earn a contract ahead of the upcoming campaign.
