Excellent weekend for Millwall Football Club – Opinion

Championship side Millwall Football Club enjoyed a fantastic weekend as both the men’s first team, and the Lionesses won away from home.

What happened at the weekend?

Casper De Noore scored a 91st minute winner against Swansea in a poor performance, and the lionesses stunned Haywards Heath Women to win 6-1.

For the lions, they grew to 10th in the Championship table as the two substitutes Femi Azeez & Casper De Noore combined and De Noore scored his second consecutive goal at the Swansea.com stadium since he joined Millwall under Gary Rowett last summer.

For the Lionesses, they continued their unbeaten run of five games under new manager Ted Jones. New signing Esme Johnson, who was announced to have signed on a dual registration from London City Lionesses just before the game, made an unbelievable start to her Lionesses career, grabbing one goal and an assist.

How have each team faired so far this season?

Like the mens team, the Lionesses haven’t had the greatest start to the season. After only five games, co-managers Alex Russell & Adam Rowland departed the club, and U18’s manager Ted Jones took the reins as first-team manager and mens first-team kit manager Jack Wisson was appointed as his assistant.

Since Jones came in, they’ve lost only one game which was the FA Cup tie against Ebbsfleet United. They’ve played five league games, they’ve drawn two, and won 3 – which have all come consecutively.

Over the last two games, Lions Head Coach Neil Harris has emphasised the fact that Millwall haven’t played particularly well, and still gained 6 points. Highlighting his previous point about playing much better than their opponents and not gaining anything at all or just one point.

What’s next for the two sides?

Next up for Neil Harris’ side, is the visit of Burnley, who are on an unbeaten run of 9 games and haven’t lost a league game, since August 24th – against Sunderland. A very big test at The Den, and hopefully a positive result for Millwall.

For Ted Jones’ side, they have two weeks rest, and don’t have a game until Barking FC Women come to St Paul’s Sports Ground on November 10th. It will be a chance for Ted Jones to get his first win at home as the first team manager.

Barking sit in 5th place in the London & South East Regional Women’s Premier Division, with 5 wins and four losses compared to Millwall’s three wins, two draws and four losses.
