Andy Woodman has exclusively told THE DECK that Mark Hughes was right to say that “there was only one footballing team out there today” after Bromley lost to Carlisle United last month.
Bromley travelled to the bottom placed League Two side in March but were beaten thanks to a second half strike from Callum Whelan.
Carlisle opened the scoring in the 13th minute through Stephen Wearne’s first goal for the Cumbrians, but found themselves pegged back after former Swindon Town man Harry McKirdy equalised in the 28th minute. However, it was Mark Hughes side that came out victors.
After the game Mark Hughes was quick to praise his side, whilst also criticising his opposition. Speaking to CUTV he stated:
“I thought we were excellent all day long, we could have won the game quite comfortably really.
“Had a few chances towards the end – some balls and areas chasing after us and trying to make things happen but there was only one footballing team out there today and yeah, really pleased for the lads.
Woodman described this moment as a turning point in their season, claiming that Hughes was “right” to make that claim and that his Bromley side had “lost” what they were.
What did Andy Woodman have to say?
Speaking exclusively to Fourth Tier Fever hosts Keiron and Luke for THE DECK, Woodman stated:
“We know what we are”
“We went away from it a bit to be honest”
“Mark Hughes, I listened to his interview after our game”
“They beat us up at Carlisle.”
“We were off it that day”
“In his interview after he said that there was only one team trying to play football”
“I actually have to thank Mark Hughes for that, because I thought ‘Yeah you’re right'”
“There is only one team playing football and that is you lot and we have gone away from being what we are”
“So after that team we went back to mastering what we are, and what we are good at and we started getting good results again. “
Not Enough for Carlisle United
The victory will have been a moral boost to the Carlisle squad, but it appears to have been far too little, too late to save their season. They sit bottom of the league, with a game in hand on Morecambe and Tranmere Rovers and are seven points away from safety. Whilst it is still mathematically possible that they can survive, if they manage it, it could be one of the greatest escapes in EFL history.
