Exclusive: Barnsley Identify Possible Keillor-Dunn Replacement, League One Sides Watching

Barnsley have identified Danish striker Arman Taranis as a possible replacement for Davis Keillor-Dunn, but may face a battle in the summer as his form heats up.

Blackpool and Bolton Wanderers are among the other League One sides tracking Taranis following his move to Degerfors IF in the Swedish top flight.

Sources close to The Deck indicate scouts from all three clubs have watched the 24-year-old forward in recent weeks, with Barnsley in particular viewing him as a profile fit similar to Davis Keillor-Dunn, the type of direct, mobile attacker capable of operating across the front line.

Taranis only joined Degerfors in August 2025, signing a deal until the end of 2028 after impressing in Denmark with FC Roskilde. His rise has been anything but conventional.

Burnley spell

After coming through the youth systems at SønderjyskE and spending time in the academy setup at Burnley, Taranis drifted into Denmark’s lower tiers before rebuilding his reputation. A prolific spell at Herning Fremad in 2023, where he scored 12 goals in 13 matches, reignited interest.

He then made the jump to Roskilde, contributing to their promotion push with eight goal involvements across the 2024-25 campaign. A standout performance in Denmark’s 2nd Division, including a hat-trick in a 5-0 win over VSK Århus in August 2025, ultimately earned him his move to Sweden.

His start at Degerfors was steady rather than spectacular, but there are signs he is settling. Taranis has registered a goal and an assist in his last three appearances, and his all-round involvement has reportedly caught the attention of recruitment departments in England.

He offers pace and vertical running rather than being a traditional target man. Comfortable drifting wide or playing centrally, he fits the modern League One attacking profile, pressing aggressively and attacking space in transition.

Barnsley’s interest is believed to be the most concrete at this stage. The club view him as an ESC model signing, a data-backed recruitment aligned with their current structure, targeting undervalued markets in Scandinavia. With comparisons drawn internally to Keillor-Dunn in terms of movement and attacking intent, he is seen as a player who could adapt quickly to the tempo of English football.

Blackpool and Bolton are understood to be monitoring rather than actively negotiating, but both clubs have increasingly cast their nets wider in recent windows, particularly for players entering peak years with resale potential.

Degerfors are under no pressure to sell. Taranis signed a long-term contract less than six months ago, and his recent upturn in form strengthens their position. However, should his contributions continue to trend upward, interest from England is expected to intensify before the summer window.

For now, scouts are watching closely. League One’s recruitment battle may already be unfolding in Sweden.
