Colchester United are interested in signing Southend United midfielder Noor Husin during the January transfer window, sources have informed Look Sports Media.
The 26-year-old has been an integral part of Kevin Maher’s side during a difficult 2023/24 campaign for the National League side, but now his impressive performances have attracted the interest of Colchester United.
Who is Noor Husin?
The midfielder was a product of Reading’s youth setup and enjoyed a series of loan spells before moving onto Notts County in January 2018. He’s also had spells with Stevenage and Dartford before making the move to Southend United in January 2022.
Since arriving at Roots Hall, Husin has made over 75 appearances for the club but is currently experiencing his best season for the club, netting three goals from his opening 27 league games so far including a goal-of-the-season contender against Solihull Moors.
Husin has also earned 16 caps for his native Afghanistan after making his debut back in March 2019 with his latest appearance arriving back in October.
What is his contract situation?
Upon signing for the National League side in January 2022, Husin penned a two-and-a-half-year contract with the football club, meaning his deal is set to expire at the end of the season.
Since their takeover update, Southend United have signed four new players after their transfer embargo was lifted, including the addition of fellow midfielder James Morton from Weston Super-Mare.
The likes of Nathan Ralph and Jack Bridge have signed new contracts with the football club but they are yet to tie down the likes of Husin and Cardwell, the latter has attracted the interest of League One side Exeter City.
Pushing for safety
Colchester United currently sit 22nd in League Two and are desperate to avoid relegation into the National League. The club are just six points above the relegation zone but have played two games more than the two sides directly below them.
Meanwhile, Southend United are pushing towards an unlikely playoff spot after climbing back into the top half for the first time since their points deduction at the start of the season. However, the club have work to do in that department, sitting seven points off.
Writer’s View
Husin has been an instrumental part of Kevin Maher’s side so far and unless he has his heart set on the EFL this month, it will be a difficult deal for Colchester United to pull off.
However, Husin’s performances have certainly been deserving of a move into the EFL and whether Southend United consider cashing in or tying him down instead remains to be seen.
