Crawley Town manager Scott Lindsey is in negotiation with Gillingham over the vacant managerial role, sources have informed Look Sports Media.

The former Swindon Town boss has had two interviews with the League Two promotion hopefuls as the club look to appoint a replacement for the departed Neil Harris following his recent sacking. Lindsey only joined Crawley from Swindon Town in January 2023. Following his move he impressed by turning around the side’s fortunes staving off relegation at the expense of Hartlepool United. This season Crawley were predicted by many to be relegated following the sale of several high profile players, but despite the odds started the season in impressive form competing towards the top of the table, until a dip in form caused a drop down the table.

The former Swindon Manager took over at the County Ground stepping up from assistant manager to the full time role after the departure of Ben Garner to Charlton Athletic. Lindsey has also had spells at Lincoln City and Chatham Town as well as an extensive playing career.

Upon joining his current club the 51-year-old added:

“I’m really excited to be here. It has taken a while, but I am delighted to finally get the deal done and over the line. I am straight to work on the training ground tomorrow,” Lindsey said.

“They are a great group of lads and I look forward to working with them.

“When Crawley put the approach in to Swindon, I was immediately excited and wanted to see what it was all about. It was clear to see the plan that Chris [Galley] and the owners have in place and how they want to move the club forward.”

It is unknown at this stage if Scott Lindsey is the first choice option, or if Gillingham will opt for another manager but talks are ongoing which will come as a blow to Crawley fans.

Writer’s View

This would be an interesting appointment, Lindsey has shown he has what it takes at Crawley, but having spend such a short period of time at his previous two clubs it should raise some questions. Most notably what will happen to his current club after he leaves? Will they stumble back to the form that many had anticipated at the start of the season?
