National League side Sutton United have announced the signing of Millwall U21’s goalkeeper George Evans on a 28-day loan deal.
The 19-year-old, who spent time on loan at Broadbridge Heath last season, joins up with Head Coach Steve Morrison, who is a Lions legend and will hope to make his debut on Tuesday night when The U’s play against Tamworth in the FA Trophy.
The signing of George Evans’ will benefit Sutton’s current situation to a large degree
Sutton haven’t been on the greatest run of form recently, picking up no wins in the last 7 fixtures, and with a recent injury to number one goalkeeper Jack Sims last week against Aldershot, Evans will be a welcomed face to Sutton United.
Sutton Head Coach Steve Morrison is “looking forward” to seeing George Evans play
Speaking to Sutton United’s official website, Morrison said, “George is a hugely talented young goalkeeper who joins us at an important stage in the season. He showed his potential during a brief loan at Broadbridge last season, and I’m looking forward to seeing him in action.”
Ex-Millwall Chairman Jeff Burninge on Evans’ Loan
Speaking exclusively to The Deck UK about the signing of Evans, former Millwall chairman Jeff Burnige said, “He is highly rated and needs game time in men’s football; especially after an injury, he needs the game time. I watch a lot of the youth teams, including the under 18s. We have quite a few goalkeepers who can play for the u21’s, so it is good for him to go out on loan, and I believe Sutton is the perfect place for him to do that, under Steve Morrison.”
The Deck understands that Millwall’s first-team goalkeeping coach, Andy Marshall, who played for Millwall against Manchester United in the 2004 FA Cup final, highly rates George Evans and will be only too pleased to see the 19-year-old head out on such a loan deal.
